The Oyo State Government has declared Monday, October 5, 2026, a work-free day for teachers across the state in celebration of this year’s Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) Day. The declaration was contained in a circular issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Musibau Babatunde.
The government said the decision was in recognition of the contributions of teachers to the state’s education system and their role in developing human capital.
According to the government, the work-free day will allow teachers to participate fully in activities organised to mark the occasion, reflect on developments in the education sector and strengthen unity among members of the teaching profession.
The state government also congratulated teachers across Oyo on the occasion and reaffirmed its commitment to policies and programmes aimed at improving teaching and learning.
It described teachers as an important part of the state’s education system and said their welfare, dignity and professional development remained a priority.
The work-free day takes effect on Monday, October 5, 2026, across the state.
