ADC PCC Demands Probe into Alleged AK-47 Threat by Edo APC Chairman

The African Democratic Congress Presidential Campaign Council (ADC PCC) has called for an investigation into an alleged threat by the Edo State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Jarrett Tenebe, to use AK-47 rifles against those who attempt to stop the party from securing its targeted 2.5 million votes for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 election.

The council also raised concerns over a reported attack on ADC members in Gegu, Koton Karfi Local Government Area of Kogi State, where vehicles belonging to some party supporters were allegedly destroyed.

The ADC PCC Director of Media and Publicity, Kola Ologbondiyan, raised the concerns in a statement issued on Sunday.

Ologbondiyan described the alleged comment by Tenebe as dangerous and capable of creating fear among voters ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He said the council had expected the APC leadership and President Tinubu to respond to the reported threat, but claimed that neither had publicly condemned it or called for a retraction.

“We are shocked that a state chairman of a ruling party, Mr. Jarrett Tenebe, can stand before the public and threaten Nigerians with AK-47 rifles if they refuse to vote for his party, the APC,” Ologbondiyan said.

According to him, such a statement should not be dismissed as ordinary political rhetoric, particularly with the 2027 elections approaching.

The ADC PCC therefore called on the Inspector-General of Police, the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to invite Tenebe for questioning over the alleged threat.

Ologbondiyan also questioned the possibility of the APC achieving its proposed 2.5 million votes in Edo through what he described as a free and credible electoral process.

He argued that voters in the state were politically aware and claimed that many were dissatisfied with the hardship and insecurity under the APC-led administration.

The council further appealed to international organisations, including the United Nations, European Union, African Union, ECOWAS and the United States, to pay attention to developments ahead of the 2027 elections and encourage all parties to support a peaceful and credible process.

Meanwhile, the ADC PCC called for a separate investigation into the reported attack on its members in Gegu, Koton Karfi.

Ologbondiyan urged security agencies to identify those responsible for the alleged attack and ensure that anyone found culpable is brought to justice.

He also appealed to members of the ADC in the area who witnessed the incident to provide information that could assist the investigation.

With the 2027 election still ahead, Ologbondiyan said the election would be a referendum on the APC-led government, insisting that intimidation would not stop Nigerians from exercising their right to vote.
