A student of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Fadina Segun Samson, popularly known as SEGZY, has emerged winner of the BIGI Music Competition held during the 2026 edition of Soundcity OnTour in Ogun State.
SEGZY clinched the top position ahead of Olawumi David, known as Dayvo, who finished as first runner-up, and Adebayo Moyinoluwa, known as Sourde, who placed third. The competition featured a reported ₦1 million prize pool for emerging artistes seeking recognition and opportunities to showcase their music.
The event took place from October 7 to 9 at FUNAAB, bringing students together for three days of music, dance, games and other entertainment activities. It ended with a concert that placed student performers at the centre of the campus experience.
At the regional finals, however, Taiwo Oladapo Opeyemi, popularly known as T.Boss, from Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH), emerged first. SEGZY came second, while Alabi David, known as The Vyine, from the University of Ibadan, finished third.
The competition forms part of Soundcity OnTour 2026, sponsored by BIGI and Fearless Energy Drink, brands of Rite Foods Limited. The initiative combines music competitions, dance challenges and live performances to give young people opportunities to showcase their abilities and connect with wider audiences.
Speaking on the initiative, BIGI Brand Manager, Biola Aransiola, said Nigerian campuses were filled with talented young people who needed platforms to express themselves and develop their potential.
“There is no shortage of talent on Nigerian campuses. What matters is creating platforms where young artistes can be heard, recognised and encouraged to go further,” Aransiola said.
She added that seeing emerging performers step forward and gain recognition was an important part of the initiative.
Soundcity OnTour has expanded its reach from 10 campuses during its debut in 2023 to 20 institutions in 2026. Through the tour, organisers aim to bring entertainment and talent-discovery opportunities closer to students across the country.
Following the FUNAAB activation, the tour is scheduled to move to Kwara State University, where more emerging artistes will have the opportunity to compete and showcase their music.
For the participating students, the competition offers more than a chance to win prizes, providing an opportunity to build an audience and take their musical ambitions beyond campus.
