First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has called for greater protection of the teaching profession and improved welfare for teachers across the country. She made the call in her message to mark the 2026 World Teachers’ Day, celebrated on Monday, October 5.

This year’s celebration was held under the theme, “Standing with Teachers: 60 Years of Protecting the Profession, Advancing Its Status and Shaping Our Futures.” Oluremi Tinubu acknowledged the contributions of teachers to national development, describing them as important figures in shaping young minds and preparing future generations.

She said teachers play a vital role in nurturing dreams and equipping children and young people with the knowledge needed to contribute to society.

The First Lady urged policymakers and members of the public to do more to protect the teaching profession, improve the welfare of teachers and raise their status.

She also used the occasion to celebrate teachers for their continued contribution to the country’s development. “Happy World Teachers’ Day,” she said.
