General

Super Falcons captain Rasheedat Ajibade has been taken to hospital for further medical checks after suffering an injury during Nigeria’s 5-0 victory over Comoros in the 2028 Olympic Games qualifiers.

Ajibade was injured in the first half of Tuesday’s second-leg encounter at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, Ogun State, following a collision with a Comoros player. She was subsequently stretchered off the pitch, raising concerns among her teammates and supporters.

After the match, interim coach Augustine Eguavoen confirmed that the forward had been taken to hospital for an MRI scan to determine the extent of the injury. He expressed hope that it was not serious, although her condition would need to be assessed before a clearer update could be provided.

The injury took some of the shine off Nigeria’s convincing victory, which secured a 7-0 aggregate win and a place in the next round of the Olympic qualifiers.

Despite losing their captain early in the game, the Super Falcons maintained their dominance. Toni Payne and Uchenna Kanu scored twice each, while Christy Ucheibe added a penalty to complete the victory.

Ajibade’s condition will be a major concern for the team as preparations begin for their next qualifying assignment against Morocco.

For now, fans will be hoping the injury is not serious and that the influential forward can return to action soon. The full extent of the injury and her expected recovery time have yet to be confirmed.
