Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has assured residents that the lingering local government crisis in the state will soon be resolved, saying efforts are underway to restore normal governance at the grassroots.
The governor gave the assurance during a meeting with leaders and stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Accord Party, where they also endorsed his appointment as Osun State Coordinator of the Tinubu/Shettima Presidential Campaign Council ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to a statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, the stakeholders welcomed Adeleke’s appointment and reaffirmed that the alliance with the All Progressives Congress (APC) was limited to the presidential election.
The meeting also called on President Bola Tinubu to help resolve the local government crisis, noting that restoring grassroots administration would ease the difficulties faced by residents and support political mobilisation ahead of the elections.
Adeleke told the gathering that steps had been taken to address the crisis and expressed confidence that a lasting solution would soon be reached.
“I want to assure Osun people that the local government crisis is about to be resolved. We should expect the good news. Mr President is committed to finding lasting solutions,” the governor said.
He added that his administration had not abandoned grassroots governance and recognised the importance of resolving the dispute for both residents and preparations for the forthcoming elections.
The governor also thanked Tinubu for recognising his leadership in Osun and said the necessary arrangements were being made to enable him to carry out his responsibilities as state coordinator of the presidential campaign.
On the political alliance, Adeleke made it clear that the partnership with the APC would not extend to legislative elections.
He said members of the coalition would support Tinubu’s re-election bid while campaigning separately for their respective candidates for the Senate, House of Representatives and Osun State House of Assembly.
“Our deal is for the re-election of President Tinubu at the presidential elections. Each coalition partner is to campaign for their legislative candidates,” Adeleke said.
He further pledged to personally campaign for Accord candidates in the 2027 legislative elections, insisting that he would not sacrifice the party’s candidates as part of the arrangement with the APC.
“I would never trade away Accord candidates in next year’s legislative elections,” he added.
The stakeholders subsequently adopted strategies for Tinubu’s re-election campaign and mandated Adeleke to work towards securing victories for Accord candidates in the legislative polls.
Those at the meeting included PDP State Chairman, Sunday Bisi; Accord State Chairman, Victor Akande; Secretary to the State Government, Teslim Igbalaye; Chief of Staff to the Governor, Kazeem Akinleye; members of the state executive council; lawmakers; local government chairmen; legislative candidates; and party leaders from across Osun State’s 30 local government areas.
The meeting ended with renewed calls for an early resolution of the local government crisis, which the stakeholders said was necessary to ease the challenges facing communities and strengthen preparations for the 2027 elections.
