Former Sokoto State Governor and Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal has dismissed reports suggesting he is planning to leave the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing the claims as false and baseless.
Tambuwal’s position was made known in a statement issued on Monday by Prince Daniel, his Special Adviser on Media and Strategy, through the AWT Media Office.
The statement said the senator had no plans to join the ruling APC and urged the public to disregard speculation about a possible change in his political allegiance.
It also addressed photographs and video clips circulating on social media, arguing that Tambuwal’s interactions with politicians from other parties should not be interpreted as evidence of a planned defection.
According to the statement, Tambuwal maintains relationships with politicians across party lines as a result of his years in public service, but such ties do not mean he intends to leave the ADC.
“Political civility is no proof of political realignment,” the statement said, adding that exchanging greetings or engaging with members of another party should not be taken as evidence of negotiations to switch parties.
The media office maintained that Tambuwal remained committed to strengthening the ADC, building political cooperation and mobilising support ahead of the 2027 general elections.
It also urged political commentators and media organisations to verify reports concerning the senator with his media office before publishing them.
The statement comes amid speculation over possible political movements ahead of the 2027 elections, with Tambuwal’s camp insisting that his focus remains on the ADC and its political objectives.
It further called for public discussions to focus on Nigeria’s economic, security and governance challenges rather than unverified claims about politicians’ party affiliations.
