Dangote Promises Priority for Small Investors in Refinery IPO

Aliko Dangote, President of Dangote Group, has said investors applying for ₦50,000 or less will receive priority consideration in the Dangote Refinery Initial Public Offering (IPO), as the company seeks to encourage wider public participation in the investment.

Dangote made the announcement during the final stop of the refinery’s nationwide IPO roadshow in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, where investors, business leaders and financial experts discussed the offering and its potential impact on Nigeria’s economy.

He said the IPO was an opportunity for Nigerians to become shareholders in one of Africa’s major industrial projects, rather than simply an avenue for raising capital.

“We will prioritise people with ₦50,000 and below,” Dangote said, highlighting the company’s intention to make the offer accessible to small investors.

He added that although African and international investors had already committed funds to the refinery, the public offering would give Nigerians an opportunity to own a stake in the project.

Dangote encouraged prospective investors to consider the long-term potential of the investment, saying broader participation in the capital market could promote savings, financial literacy and wealth creation.

Economist Bismarck Rewane, who spoke at the event, highlighted the economic potential of the South-South region and the need to translate its resources into sustainable development, better infrastructure and improved living standards.

Another economist, Muda Yusuf, said the refinery could support economic diversification, domestic production, energy security and job creation. He noted that its impact could extend beyond petroleum refining to sectors such as petrochemicals, packaging, manufacturing and logistics.

Yusuf also stressed the importance of consistent government policies and a stable regulatory environment in maintaining investor confidence and attracting long-term capital.

Stakeholders at the roadshow urged prospective investors to examine the refinery’s performance, valuation and long-term business prospects before making investment decisions.

Legal practitioner and business leader Paul Usoro expressed satisfaction with the level of participation from the South-South region, encouraging investors there to take advantage of the offering.

“My joy is to see the South-South well represented,” Usoro said.

The Port Harcourt event concluded the nationwide roadshow organised to raise awareness about the IPO and encourage Nigerians to participate.

Dangote Group said the offering was intended to widen local ownership of the refinery while supporting investment, industrial growth and employment. However, prospective investors will still need to assess the offer’s terms and risks before committing their money.
