Japan Tobacco International (JTI) Nigeria has reaffirmed its commitment to the country, saying it remains confident in Nigeria’s long-term economic prospects and is focused on building a sustainable business presence.
The company, which has operated in Nigeria for 18 years, said its continued presence reflects its confidence in the country and its commitment to creating long-term value for its employees, partners and other stakeholders.
The General Manager of JTI Nigeria, Abdallah Simba, made this known while reflecting on Nigeria’s development journey and its 66th Independence Anniversary.
Simba said Nigeria remained an important market for the company, adding that JTI’s continued investment and operations were based on its belief in the country’s potential for long-term growth.
He said the company’s approach to doing business in Nigeria was centred on responsible corporate conduct, compliance with regulations, employee development and maintaining constructive relationships with stakeholders.
“Our commitment to Nigeria goes beyond our business operations. As Nigeria celebrates the important milestone of its 66th independence, we recognise the importance of building a responsible and sustainable enterprise that contributes positively to the country’s development while creating long-term value for our employees, partners and stakeholders,” Simba said.
He added that JTI placed emphasis on corporate governance and ethical business practices, particularly given the highly regulated nature of its industry.
Simba also highlighted the company’s focus on its workforce, saying JTI was committed to creating an inclusive environment where employees could develop professionally and have equal opportunities.
He noted that transparency, accountability and respect for regulatory requirements were important to maintaining a sustainable business and building trust with stakeholders.
Looking ahead, Simba acknowledged the changing economic environment in Nigeria but expressed confidence in the country’s resilience and its ability to create opportunities for businesses willing to take a long-term view.
He said JTI Nigeria would continue to strengthen its relationships with stakeholders and maintain what he described as a responsible corporate presence while contributing to the country’s broader economic aspirations.
JTI Nigeria is part of Japan Tobacco International, a global tobacco and vaping company headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, with operations in more than 130 countries.
