The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of putting pressure on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over the omission of its governorship candidate, Oladipupo Adebutu, from the commission’s list.
The party, however, expressed confidence that Adebutu’s name would eventually be published and that he would contest and win the 2027 governorship election.
In a statement issued on Saturday, October 10, the Ogun PDP Publicity Secretary, Kayode Adebayo, urged residents and party supporters to remain calm, insisting that Adebutu had fulfilled the party’s membership registration requirements.
According to the party, Adebutu registered as a PDP member within the stipulated period for digital registration, while his membership card was printed, verified and submitted to INEC within the required timeframe.
The PDP alleged that the omission was the result of pressure from the APC, which it claimed was apprehensive about losing the election. However, the statement did not provide evidence to substantiate the allegation.
The party urged its supporters not to be distracted by the development, saying it remained confident in Adebutu’s chances in the 2027 election.
It also called on party members to remain steadfast as it continued its campaign to unseat the APC-led government in Ogun State.
The omission of Adebutu’s name from the list has raised questions about his status in the race, with the PDP maintaining that the issue would be resolved in its favour.
INEC’s position on the omission was not included in the PDP statement.
