JMG Opens Factory Doors to YABATECH Engineering Students for Practical Training

General

JMG Limited has hosted engineering students from Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH) for a factory visit aimed at helping them understand how engineering principles are applied in real industrial settings.

The visit, held on Friday, October 23, 2026, involved members of the Nigerian Institution of Mechanical Engineers (NIMechE), YABATECH Chapter, and provided an opportunity for the students to complement their classroom learning with practical exposure to industrial operations.

The engagement also featured insights from Engr. Musa Isiaq, a mechanical engineering lecturer and examination officer at YABATECH who previously worked with JMG. His experience in both academia and industry offered the students a perspective on the relationship between engineering education and professional practice.

Isiaq said industrial visits could help students better understand how the concepts they study in school translate into practical applications.

“Experiences like this help students better understand the connection between what they learn in the classroom and how engineering principles are applied in industry,” he said, adding that observing processes firsthand could give them a clearer picture of the technical knowledge and skills required in their chosen profession.

JMG provides engineering and electromechanical solutions in areas including power generation, heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC), solar energy and industrial applications.

The company’s operations offered the students an opportunity to gain a better understanding of how engineering systems support industrial and commercial activities.

Oluwatomi Faniran, Head of Marketing at JMG Limited, said the company recognised the importance of exposing young engineers to practical applications of the knowledge they acquire in school.

She noted that engagements between companies and academic institutions could help students become more familiar with industry technologies and the role engineering plays in solving everyday business and industrial challenges.

According to Faniran, closer interaction between industry and educational institutions would help prepare students for the realities of professional practice.

For the visiting students, the exercise provided an opportunity to connect their academic training with real-world engineering applications and learn more about the technical considerations involved in industrial operations.

The visit also highlighted the role industry exposure can play in engineering education, giving students a broader understanding of their field as they prepare to enter the workforce.

By hosting the YABATECH students, JMG reinforced the importance of collaboration between industry and academic institutions in helping aspiring engineers gain practical knowledge alongside their formal education.
