The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, has congratulated the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, on the 20th anniversary of his ascension to the throne.

Ogunwusi, who is the Co-Chairman of the National Council of Traditional Rulers of Nigeria, described the milestone as an opportunity to recognise the Sultan’s contributions to peace, religious harmony and national unity.

The congratulatory message was contained in a statement issued on Sunday by the Senior Media Officer of the Ooni’s Palace, Sodiq Lawal, on behalf of the Director of Media and Public Affairs, Otunba Moses Olafare.

In the message, the Ooni praised the Sultan’s leadership over the past two decades, particularly his efforts to promote peaceful coexistence among Nigerians of different religious and ethnic backgrounds.

He described the Sultan as a respected voice for unity and dialogue, noting that his position has provided an important platform for encouraging understanding and cooperation across the country.

Ogunwusi also highlighted the longstanding relationship between the traditional institutions of Ile-Ife and Sokoto, stressing the importance of continued cooperation among traditional and religious leaders in building a peaceful and stable Nigeria.

“As Your Eminence marks this historic milestone of 20 years on the throne, I join your family, the Sultanate Council, the government and good people of Sokoto State, as well as the entire Nigerian Muslim Ummah, in celebrating a life of purposeful leadership and outstanding service to humanity,” the Ooni said.

He further prayed for the Sultan’s continued good health, wisdom and strength, wishing him many more years of service to the people and the country.

The Ooni expressed hope that the Sultan’s commitment to peace, unity and national development would continue to inspire future generations.
