The Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) has dismissed reports of a breakdown in relations between its management and staff, insisting that it remains committed to employee welfare, regular promotions and professional development.
The agency also denied claims that its staff union chairman or any other employee was detained by the Department of State Services (DSS) following disagreements surrounding the promotion exercise.

In a statement, the Head of Corporate Communications, Monsurat Amasa-Oyelude, said the DSS had invited representatives of both the management and the staff union for a meeting to discuss the matter.
She explained that the meeting was held and both parties were subsequently asked to return to status quo, maintaining that no staff member was detained or intimidated during the engagement.
Amasa-Oyelude described reports suggesting otherwise as inaccurate, accusing some media outlets of presenting a misleading account of the DSS engagement.
She said, “Nobody was detained. As stated earlier, both parties were invited, the matter was discussed, and everyone was asked to return to status quo. To turn this into a story of detention and intimidation is a misrepresentation of the facts.”
On staff welfare, the agency said its workforce remained central to its achievements and would continue to receive attention through training, capacity building and career advancement opportunities.
According to Amasa-Oyelude, LIRS has approximately 2,800 employees whose collective efforts have contributed to the agency’s growth in revenue generation and operational efficiency.
She added that promotion decisions would continue to be guided by merit, competence and performance, while management would sustain its investment in employees’ professional development.
The agency further maintained that its relationship with the majority of its workforce remained based on mutual respect and a shared commitment to institutional growth.
LIRS said it remained open to constructive engagement with recognised staff representatives and would continue to promote policies aimed at improving workplace harmony, employee development and efficient service delivery.
