The Oyo State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Ayodeji Abiodun Aikomo, has urged law officers in the state to strengthen unity, mutual respect and teamwork as they begin a new legal year.
Aikomo gave the charge during a ceremony organised by the Ministry of Justice in collaboration with the Law Officers Association of Nigeria (LOAN), Oyo State Chapter, to mark the commencement of the new legal year.
He said the Ministry of Justice could only effectively carry out its responsibilities if its officers worked together and avoided disagreements capable of affecting their collective progress.
The Attorney-General encouraged the officers to approach the new legal year with the fear of God, mutual understanding and a shared commitment to the development of the ministry.
He stressed that personal differences, grudges and ill feelings should not be allowed to undermine the working relationship among members of the legal team.
Also speaking, the Solicitor-General and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mrs Oluwabunmi Are, urged law officers to uphold professionalism, ethical conduct, diligence and impartiality in the discharge of their duties.
She reminded them that the authority attached to their positions came with a responsibility to serve the public with honesty, humility and accountability.
Are also highlighted the importance of cooperation, mentorship and mutual respect in building a strong Ministry of Justice, while commending the leadership of LOAN under its state chairman, Mrs D. O. Collins.
Earlier, Collins acknowledged the demanding nature of the work of law officers and called on members to maintain high standards of discipline, competence and ethical conduct.
She said the welfare and professional recognition of law officers remained important to the association, urging senior colleagues to guide and mentor younger lawyers as they develop their careers.
The ceremony featured a legal procession into the conference hall and concluded with prayers led by Mr O. W. Ogunniran and Mrs G. O. Sanni, who sought divine wisdom, guidance and strength for the ministry in the new legal year.
The event brought together members of the Ministry of Justice to reflect on their responsibilities and renew their commitment to professional service.
